The joy of having a child often comes with changes to the body from pregnancy and childbirth that cannot be restored through a healthy diet and exercise. Stubborn pockets of fat may appear throughout the body and stretched skin may not return to its previously tight condition. The mommy makeover combines several plastic surgeries, including lifts, liposuction, and augmentation to restore a woman's body and enhance her self-confidence. The plastic surgeons at Portland area PeaceHealth Medical Group customize each patient's treatment plans to her needs, but many common procedures that are included are a tummy tuck, liposuction, and a breast lift and/or breast augmentation. Women who are finished with their plans to have children, but haven't been able to regain their pre-pregnancy body should consider a mommy makeover plastic surgery to reclaim their body.

"7 months post op- still super happy! - I don't live in the Portland/Vancouver area but was searching for the best Dr near family and that would work with an out of area patient. I also wanted a Doctor that performed the surgery in a top hospital. The moment I met with Dr Gabriel I knew he was it! His care has been fantastic from my consult through the after care, and I love his staff. He truly is an outstanding surgeon, a caring and compassionate person, a master of his skill, and a real artist! He gave me "me" back, I wouldn't go with any other Doctor! - - Stats: 5'6" 117-120 lbs. Ballet dancer, choreographer, runner and mom of 4 with twins!I knew I would be getting my tummy fixed when I took a shower a couple hours after I birthed my 8 pound twins (each). I looked down and almost cried. The twins had destroyed my beautiful ballet dancer body and I was never going back. Since then, every day of my life has been focused on concealing all that skin and putting up with my chronic lower back pain that comes from my stomach muscles being blown out. I have always known in all certainty that I was going to have a tummy tuck, but I never had considered having my breasts fixed. In the ballet world, the smaller the boobs the better! In fact, if you don’t have any breasts you look better in a leo and a tutu! Boobs just have never been my thing, until I was done nursing all my babies and I was left with flaps of sad skin that could hardly be classified as a boob! Last minute (a couple months before surgery), and after going back and forth in my head and weighing all the pros and cons, I decided to go with implants. You only live once, right? Best decision ever! I am now 2 1/2 months post op and elated. Love. Love Love.Let me sum up the experience:Picking a Dr was the most important part for me. I treated this part with all seriousness and did my research. You only have 1 body so going with the best of the best is KEY! More importantly, my body is my instrument, I use it to dance and I needed someone that understood this. I searched every city where I had family or a friend that could care for me. I was willing to fly anywhere! Dr Gabriel came highly recommended to me so I scheduled a consult. The moment I met him I knew he was the one. All my fears went away and I trusted him completely with my body. Before surgery I got myself in the best possible shape. I got down to the weight I wanted to be at, running 6 miles a day, drinking green smoothies and taking all my recommended vitamins by my dr. Dr. also told me to prepare my tummy muscles by doing pilates, which I did. He said it would help my recovery, which I am sure it did.Pre-op: Because I don't live near Vancouver, my pre-op was a couple days before surgery. I was excited, butterflies! Can't believe I am here doing it! I went ahead with picking a size. I wanted a natural look and a size that I could dance with, run with, and still fit in size Small shirts. They let me “check out” some implants and try them out. I brought home 304cc…. I spent the rest of the day running with them, dancing with them, trying on all my clothes, and quickly decided 304cc was just too big for my little frame, my clothes, and my lifestyle. So happy I brought the sizer home!! I ended up calling the office the day before surgery, freaking out a little bit about sizes, they let me come in asap and try on more! Shannon helped me and she is just the sweetest thing! I ended up going a size down to 286cc which looks perfect on me! Dr. also had me on a liquid diet + laxatives the day before (now that was fun…)Surgery day: Unreal! I wasn't nervous that much. My biggest fear was waking up during surgery... luckily that didn't happen ;) Just excited and wanting it to be over with so I can start the road to healing.Day 1 post-op: Not as bad as I thought. Almost fainted in the hospital while taking a shower, threw up (OUCH), and a little hesitant to look down at the drain (only had 1). But my amazing view from my hospital room made it seem like a vacation! No kids + a view… sigh, this was better than I expected. A little throw up and my stomach feeling like it's on fire isn't so bad :)Day 2 post-op: My Dr. calls me personally every day to check in! Telling you, he is amazing!! I am a little sore and religiously taking all my meds. I am writing all times and meds down on my ipad next to my recliner, where I sit and sleep for a week! Frozen peas are my friend! Tummy feels like it's on fire when I get up to walk to the potty, but not a single pain from the breasts. In LOVE with the breasts! LOVE LOVE LOVE! Super happy I did them! Not a regret with my size at all! I also had to wear a black “crotchless catwoman suit”, at least that is what I called it! Basically it’s a full body spanx that I wore 24/7. Around 3-4am every night the pain wakes me up, I take more meds and sleep.1 week post op: Still walking hunched over and energy is low. Still no pain from my breasts. For some reason I had the laugh-so-hard-you-start-crying giggles really bad for weeks after surgery , and that hurts!! But it is nice to laugh throughout all this, even if it did make my poor tummy feel like it was on fire. I actually haven't stopped smiling since surgery day! A week out from surgery I transferred from the recliner to the bed.2 week post-op: Feeling 50%. Dr. gave me the OK to head home. Still no lifting my baby for a while and no housework. I got a little annoyed at this point, I wanted to be 100% but had to remind myself to slow down. Still on heavy meds…. Maybe I am a baby but those meds made this whole healing process ten million times better than what I was expecting!4-6 weeks post-op: Feeling 95%. I started running at 6 weeks post op. Having so much fun trying on clothes, swim suits, and just walkin around topless! Love it. Feeling amazing!!! Finally at 6 weeks I stopped taking all medications. My nipples did get a little over sensitive around now, but no biggy. Walkin around topless cured that. I finally shopped for bras at 6 weeks! 34C. Some of the stitches on my incision were irritating me, so I just massage them and that helps. 2 months post-op: Feeling 150%+! Feeling better than I have ever felt in my life. So glad I did this! I have more self -confidence than ever, it's unreal. My back doesn’t ache like it did when my muscles were separated. I can finally wear a white t-shirt and jeans without worrying about skin flopping out and a huge muffin top, now that is priceless! I still can’t get over these boobs of mine, I swear I am more obsessed than my husband!I am now at 2.5 months post op, but it feels like I have had this body forever. I can’t even describe how happy I am. This was the best decision I have ever made, the best 12k I have ever spent, and the best outcome I could have ever asked for. I am elated and over the moon happy. I am sure I am pretty annoying too when I talk to other moms and try to convince them to get a mommy makeover. *If you have questions please message me! I wrote this review to help woman that were on the fence about the whole thing. I hope this helps!"- B. / RealSelf / Sep 24, 2013
"35 Year Old Mother ROCKS a Mommy Makeover and Brazilian Butt Lift - Vancouver, WA - Dr. Gabriel is a secret little gem here in the Northwest. He has a great bedside manner and has a brilliant surgical gift. I could tell at the hospital how respected and well-liked he is by how the nurses interacted with him during my recovery. He came highly recommended from a couple friends who had used his cosmetic services before me. I also am friends with a couple surgical nurses he frequently works with. They say "he's the best." He always answers my questions and has never left any of my needs unmet. He does beautiful work and is a pleasure to visit with in his office. I'd do it all again. - - Let me start by how absolutely thrilled I am with my surgical results. I went in for a Mommy Makeover consult where I knew I wanted the abdominoplasty with liposuction and breast lift with augmentation. I was super nervous to go in for my initial consult, but everyone in his office was so kind and put me at ease the entire time. I was laughing and joking (while naked) during my pre-op photos. Dr. Gabriel has an amazing way of being both incredibly professional yet comfortingly relaxed. After hearing my wishes for my body and evaluating and discussing my surgical options, Dr. Gabriel offered to inject the lipoed fat from my flanks into my (very flat) derriere. At first I scoffed at the idea, but Dr. Gabriel promised me I would not end up with a "J-Lo" butt. I went home to consider this new option. Unfortunately, there is not a lot of moderate or realistic sized BBL reviews and pictures out there (see my jeans photo). Everything is pretty extreme. But I decided to "get it all" and proceeded with my pre-op phase of surgery. There was a good amount of info given to me regarding what equipment, supplements, garments, and other recovery needs I would need to obtain before surgery. I felt quite prepared going in to my big day. Melissa and Rachel are wonderful resources of information and teachings, in addition to Dr. Gabriel. All of the Dr. Gabriel staff are amazing. They are so gentle, kind, and professional. Every nurse is so patient and helpful. Walking in the door, I am greeted by the lovely receptionists, who remember my name, and recall details of previous conversations I've had with them. Great personal touch. My recovery has been so smooth. Any little need or concern I have had, I call the office and they are able to help me, or even get me in for a swift appointment. I will continue to regularly visit with Dr. Gabriel for scar management (all included) throughout the next year. I am so thankful for choosing Dr. Gabriel to do my surgery. I love my new body. I love how my clothes fit. I love feeling confident every day and not being consumed with self ridicule. I love being curvy but tightened in just the right places. Thank you, Dr. Gabriel."- T. / RealSelf / Mar 11, 2015
"37 Year Old Mother of Twins Mommy Makeover with Botox for to Aid Recovery. Vancouver, WA - Fantastic plastic surgeon with an attention to detail. He has a very pleasant bedside manner. He will make sure you are recovering with minimal pain. - - I am a 37 year old mother of 6 year old twins and one 4 year old. I enjoy chasing my kiddos, running, and hiking. I was leery about having surgery because I did not want to be laid up. The decision to do this surgery was 100% the best decision. I feel confident and happy with the results. Dr. Allen Gabriel is a fantastic and skilled surgeon. He guided me through both surgeries. Initially I had a breast lift/augmentation. I had nursed three children. I have always had large breast. Before pregnancy I had 34DD. During pregnancy and nursing I jumped up to a 36 J. After nursing they deflated back to a D. One was larger than the other and they were very saggy. I also had excess skin around my abdomen. I had 2 C-sections that left my lower abs wrinkly and misshaped.I elected to do the breast surgery first. Recovery was easy. Dr. Gabriel used botox to help recovery by injecting around the muscle. I had the lollipop incision. I am pleased with the results. I am back to a 34DD. They look very natural. I was back to chasing the kids within a couple weeks. I was able to return to the gym after 6 weeks. My scars 2 years later are very faint and in some areas gone. I wish I had done the abdominoplasty with the breast surgery. I was unsure about recovering from both at the same time. I also wanted to see if losing more of the pregnancy weight and increasing weight training would help. Recovery from this surgery was more painful than the breast surgery. I feel like being athletic definitely helped get me upright faster, but having the botox injections in the abdominal wall seemed most helpful. I was amazing at how fast I was mobile. I was able to care for the kids after 7 days. Dr. Gabriel also removed an umbilical hernia for me and closed the separation I had from the twin pregnancy down my linea alba. I think if you have had C-sections in the past this will see relatively easy. It is surgery so discomfort is assured. I did not wake up in horrible pain. It was managed quite nicely with some pain killers for a couple days and then ibuprofen. I was also really impressed with how strong my core feels 12 weeks later. My running feels amazing. I am back to running 9 mile runs and hiking. Dr. Gabriel has a wonderful and knowledgeable staff as well. He will keep constant contact with you. His nurses are attentive and caring. Follow-up appointments are made frequently to ensure your healing is progressing in the direction it should. I think after a consult with Dr. Gabriel you will be confident you are making the right decision. It's great to have a body that matches the way I feel!"- A. / RealSelf / Jun 02, 2015
"34 Years Old, 2 Kids, Pregnancy Wasn't Good to Me - Vancouver, WA - Dr. Champaneria is amazing, professional, knowledgeable, and a gifted surgeon. - - After dedicating 3 years of my life to trying to get my "pre-pregnant" body back, I conceded that pregnancy wasn't good to me. I had two children and lost over 135 pounds, stuck to a very strict diet and exercise schedule, and still couldn't get my body back. Like many women I had a constant protruding stomach and lots of excess skin. My breasts were completely deflated and also had excess skin. After much research and 4 different consultations I finally found Dr. Champaneria and it was a match made in heaven! He made me feel comfortable immediately and from our first visit I knew he was the surgeon for me. His office is super professional and very friendly. He set out a game plan for a full abdominalplasty with muscle repair and a breast lift with augmentation (also known as a mommy makeover) I was hesitant at first to do the whole thing but Dr. Champaneria welcomed and answered all my questions with ease. He is very knowledgable and confident in his abilities. He also clearly outlined what to expect in the recovery process. The surgery went perfect, my incisions are as minimal as possible, and Dr. Champaneria and his team were there for me every step of the way. My aftercare is amazing and I love going into the office. I finally have my body back and could not be happier. I highly recommend Dr. Champaneria to anyone looking for a Plastic surgeon, he is truly amazing!!!"- J. / RealSelf / Apr 20, 2016
The surgical techniques used during a mommy makeover vary based on the condition of each of the body parts the patient wishes to improve. For the breasts, common issues include sagging and loose skin and a loss of breast volume. Some women will have breasts that remain enlarged. Surgeries that may be considered include breast reduction, breast augmentation and/or a breast lift. For many, a combination of these techniques creates a youthful, beautiful post-pregnancy breast appearance. The most common example is a breast augmentation with a lift. For the lower body, it is normal to see loose skin, surface irregularities such as stretch marks, and persistent pockets of fat. These are normally addressed with liposuction and by trimming away excess skin and ‘lifting’ the remaining skin to a new position.
A mommy makeover covers a sizeable area of the body. It is considered an invasive surgery and in many cases will require an overnight stay at the hospital. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia in an accredited surgical facility and can take 3 hours or longer to complete. Most women find the recovery to be a slow process. Walking upright is difficult in the first several weeks, and it is recommended that patients take it slow during the initial recovery phase. Depending on what was addressed during surgery, it could take between 6 months to a full year for the final results to appear. With that being said, most patients can go back to a normal routine in an average of 3 weeks; however, exercise is discouraged until at least 6-8 weeks after surgery.

Mommy Makeover FAQs@headingTag>
How Safe Is it?@headingTag>
A mommy makeover, because of the combined nature of surgeries, is considered an invasive procedure. Anytime a combination surgery takes place, the overall risks increase. For this reason, it is extremely important that patients find an experienced plastic surgeon that has the training and skill to perform multiple procedures in one setting. Under the hands of an experienced surgeon, the risks are greatly reduced and complications are rare.
Babies After Surgery?@headingTag>
It is recommended that all pregnancies are completed before a patient decides to have a mommy makeover. Pregnancy may compromise the results of the surgery, because additional skin stretching and weight gain is inevitable. Patients who are uncertain if they will have additional children should consult with their surgeon to discuss the best approach to take.
What About Stretch Marks?@headingTag>
Stretch marks may be minimized when the excess skin is removed. The tightening of the skin and underlying tissues will also help in making the marks less visible. Remaining stretch marks can also be minimized after surgery with skin rejuvenation treatments such as laser and chemical peels.
Will I Have Scars?@headingTag>
While a mommy makeover creates a beautiful new shape and figure for a woman, unfortunately, it does include some scarring. The scars are most common with a breast lift procedure and a tummy tuck. The surgeon will make every effort possible to create clean incisions, as well as take great care in minimizing scarring as much as possible. Any scars that result from this surgery will be able to be concealed with undergarments or swimsuits.
